FW De Klerk speaks on violence

Violence and xenophobia seem to be a recurrent nightmare. A few incisisive words from an unexpected source here. FW De Klerk is in many ways an interesting politician. He formed something of a bridge between the old and new, and helped to prevent the collapse of southern africa into civil war and anarchy. For this reason I have some respect for him. Thanks DCM and SSM for the heads-up.

I don’t usually forward siliness. But this is just such an excellent quality joke….

One afternoon a Lawyer was driving home when he saw a man eating grass
by the side of the road “Why are doing that?” the lawyer asked.
“I don’t have any money for food”‘the man replied.
“Oh,then you must come with me”.”But,Sir,I have a wife and five
children.”
“They are all welcome”.
So the family got in the lawyer’s car and he sped off towards his
mansion. “you’re so kind to help so many people”‘the wife gushed during
the journey.
“It’s fine”. said the lawyer. “I haven’t cut my grass in weeks”.

so…. what do you do?

I had a very amusing encounter with some people that I met. I asked one chap (in his 20’s, from NY) the tired old “what do you do?”

To which I heard him reply that he buys and sells socks. I transpired that I misheard. He is actually a stock trader. I think he was mildly offended, as wealthy people sometmes are when one belittles their occupation. I however was in a good mood for the rest of the day
